| |MANEURISM Urameshi Yuusuke is a ficitonal character owned by Yoshihiro Togashi. All events herein are fictional. Yoshihiro Togashi is in now way associated with this journal. All thoughts herein are not his, nor are they meant to represent the actual thoughts, lifestyle, actions, or image of a real person. No harm, misrepresentation, libel, malice, or copyright infringement is intended. |
APPEARANCE Yuusuke is 178 centimeters and 65.3 kilograms of nonstop teenage badassery. He has wide shoulders but a thin torso, small hands, long, wirey arms, and stocky legs. He has nape-length, messy, jet black hair that he usually slicks back in a faux-Elvis-era style, and brown eyes with thick black eyebrows and a short forehead. He can nearly always be found wearing Sarayashiki Junior High's winter uniform: a green, high-collared uniform jacket with golden buttons, and matching pants with patent leather street shoes.
PERSONALITY By most accounts, Yuusuke is, by and large, one of the best examples of a delinquent the world has ever seen: he had a terrible attitude, a drinking problem, a smoking problem, a pickpocketing-shoplifting problem, and a problem with pretty much everybody on the face of the planet. His lack of academic motivation, bad home situation, and nonexistent social life made him, until rather recently, one of the worst things that had ever happened to Sarayashiki Junior High. And then, Yuusuke died. Now, death didn't necessarily change Yuusuke for the better. Hell, it hardly changed him at all, except in the ways in which he suddenly appreciated such underrated passtimes as walking and breathing. What really changed him wasn't his death, or even his subsequent revival. It was the job he was assigned by those assholes in the Reikai; the job that brought him his friends and really exposed his incredibly enduring sense of justice. Raucous, intolerant, and doggedly, infallibly loyal, Yuusuke doesn't give a shit what people think about him or the way he acts. He does when he wants, when he wants, how he wants as long as it fits into his rigid-if-unorthodox honor code. Unlike most of your typical devil-may-care hero types, though, Yuusuke's not really an optimist. He's not a pessimist, either, and he's definitely not a realist, because if he were, he definitely wouldn't have the job that he does. What Yuusuke is is incredibly lucky beyond all reason, so much so that it's nearly obscene. Somebody up there likes him...or, at least, wants him alive. And it isn't just that Yuusuke's ridiculously lucky - he passes it on to the people around him, too. He's the ultimate go-getter, barely-surviving-by-the-skin-of-your-teeth kind of guy. And apparently, in the world of demons, that's an okay thing. Yuusuke is also rather full of himself, but what makes his arrogance most irritating is that he's got plenty of ability to back it up. Yuusuke "backs his smack", so to say. He's the perfect embodiment of a total and complete dickhead, but he's also not a guy you'd ever want to take in a streetfight.
HISTORY Urameshi Yuusuke's story starts with him getting run over by a pair of rowdy newlyweds and ends with him as one of the most powerful beings in the known universe. Weird, I know, but Yuusuke's life tends to be pretty unorthodox no mater when you come into it. It's just the way things are. Anyway, Yuusuke was pretty okay with being dead. No teachers to bug him, no alcoholic mother to bitch at him, no pseudo-rivals to pester him with fights, and no whiney almost-girlfriend to nag him; and, for that matter, he was finally even freer to do pretty much anything he felt like. He was relatively certain that he wouldn't miss life and life wouldn't miss him. That was, of course, until he attended his own wake. Mind changed - primarily by the emotional devastation of the same alcoholic mother, pseudo-rival, and almost-girlfriend that had made it up in the first place - Yuusuke elbowed his way into a deal with Koenma, the toddler-looking son of Enma, God of the Dead; Yuusuke was presented with the task of nurturing the egg of a Spirit Beast, which, upon hatching, would be able to help him back into life. It was the way in which he nurtured the egg which would determine the type of beast that would emerge - if he nurtured it with positive energy, the beast that would emerge would be good. However, if the energy with which he nurtured it was negative or evil, the beast that would emerge would be a monster that would devour his soul. For Yuusuke, for whom bad behavior had become sort of a habit, this presented quite the challenge. Somewhat luckily, however, his house was set on fire one day and, in order to save Keiko (that aforementioned almost-girlfriend) who was trapped inside, Yuusuke ended up hurling the egg into the flames and expending the energy that he had put into it. While this would seem to be quite the set back, it actually meant that Koenma could come into direct contact with Yusuke's soul, and so was able to decipher quite a few things about him, that ended up getting him his body and his life back in the end. But, of course, Yuusuke's interactions with the Spirit World were far from over - as a return for very literally saving his life, Koenma charged Yuusuke with responsibilities as the Spirit World's newest Spirit Detective, a protector of the human realm from supernatural evils. His first mission was rather educational and ended up acquainting him with two of the members of what would become his four-person squad; he was put in charge of an effort to retrieve three stolen valuables from, get this, the three demons responsible for stealing them. This, as all things demon-related, was a lot easier said than done, but Yuusuke ended up surviving and gaining two rather powerful allies in the process. His next mission consisted of him pretty much winning his way through a series of trials constructed by Genkai, an old woman with the enduring ability to open up a can of whoopass on virtually anyone - the mission itself was to enter and, ideally, win a tournament to become the successor to her power. Things got dirty, of course, when a demon named Rando got involved and nearly got Yuusuke devoured by a lakeful of flesh eating demonic fish, but Yuusuke ended up defeating him, thanks to a massive fluke involving the complications of doing battle in the middle of a marsh. The mission after that was what, ultimately, brought his team together - he and Kuwabara (that pseudo-rival you might remember me mentioning) were paired up with two of those thieves from his first mission, who were now charged with community service. Koenma apparently thought that sending them all on a trip to Maze Castle would be a great way to kick off their beginning as comrads - while there, they also managed to take out a group of demons that had been giving the human world a lot of trouble in the way of mind-controlling demon insects. And then there was the mission to save Yukina, Hiei's sister, which also introduced Yuusuke to the Toguro Brothers, who would end up giving him hell not soon afterwards. You get the picture: mission after mission, and Yuusuke's team started to get close. Not like the "sharing beds" kind of close, but the "hey, I'd like it if you weren't necessarily dead" close. The Dark Tournament only ended up bringing them closer - that "I'd be willing to die for you" kind of close - and that closeness really only resulted in strengthening them. Which isn't that bad, at least as far as incurable teenage delinquent standards go.
ABILITIES Talented streetfighter. His hairtrigger temper, tenacity, and willingness to fight dirty are unmatched by any human opponent. As the heir to Genkai's power, as well as the leader of the world's current Reikai Tantei, he's also in possession of quite a few supernatural abilities, including but not limited to several moves wherein he focuses his reiki into one area of his body and then releases it, with rather explosive results. (Examples of this technique are his "reigun", "shotgun", and "gattling gun" moves.) He is has incredible speed, power, and endurance. He also has near superhuman luck.
